AUSTIN, Texas – Elizabeth Nagel drove the lane and hit a lay-up with six seconds remaining in overtime to give the Harding women's basketball team a 77-76 win over St. Edward's Sunday afternoon in Austin, Texas. The Lady Bisons extend their winning streak to five games and move to 5-4 on the season.
Senior Stacey owens hit a lay-up with 1:03 remaining in overtime to give Harding a 75-74 lead. A missed jumper by St. Edward's got the Lady Bisons the ball back but a player control foul allowed the Hilltoppers a shot at the win. A Lady Bison foul sent Brittany Ward's to the line for St. Edward's. Ward knocked down both free-throws to give the Hilltoppers a 76-75 lead. On the next Lady Bison possession Kallie Bartee missed three-pointer with 13 seconds left but luckily the rebound went out of bounds off a St. Edward's player to give Harding the ball back to set up the winning lay-up by Nagel.
At the end of regulation, Bailey St. Clair hit one-of-two free-throws to send the game into overtime.
Harding had four players in double-figure scoring, leading the way was junior guard St. Clair who had 18 points and a team high eight steals, which tied for the second most steals in a game by a Lady Bison. Sophomore guard Sierra Rollins had a career high 16 points, hitting 8-of-10 from the field. Senior forward Stacey Owens added 15 and Nagel added 10 points.
Kelli Payton led all scoring with 26 points. Payton was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Monica James and Ward each added 10 points for the Hilltoppers.
The Lady Bisons dominated the paint scoring 40 of their 77 points, 26 points were in the second half.
Harding hit 14-of-16 free-throw line and shot 46.7 percent from the floor.
It was the second straight game the Lady Bisons have won in overtime.
Harding heads home after the two game road trip, hosting Ecclesia Saturday at 5:30 p.m., in the Rhodes Field House.
