MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello junior guard Nick Carey scored 10 of the Boll Weevils 13 overtime points to lead his team to a 62-56 victory over Harding in Gulf South Conference men's action at Steelman Field House. UAM moved to 4-1 in conference play, while Harding fell to 1-4.

 

Regulation ended with the score tied at 49-all, but Carey, who had missed all eight of his three-point attempts, connected on both of his three-pointers in overtime. He also was 4-of-5 from the free throw line in extra time.

 

Harding (8-9) made just 2-of-6 from the field in the overtime period, both were three-pointers by Matt Garner and Kevin Brown.

 

It was Arkansas-Monticello's fourth consecutive victory over Harding and extended the Bisons' current skid to four games.

 

Kevin Brown led Harding in scoring with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Stephen Blake scored 10 of his 11 points in the first half and added a team-high four assists.

 

Carey led scorers with 18 points, and Derrick Robinson scored 13 and had 10 rebounds.

 

Arkansas-Monticello outrebounded Harding 56-30. It was the second-most rebounds by a Harding opponent since the Bisons joined the NCAA in 1997-98. Twenty-two of the Boll Weevils rebounds came on the offensive end, and led to a 17-1 advantage in second-chance points.

 

Harding is back in action Thursday against Delta State in Cleveland, Miss. Tipoff at the Sillers Coliseum is scheduled for 8 p.m.
