Hot Shooting Boosts Lady Bisons Over Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Senior forward Stacey Owens scored 22 points, hitting 8-of-11 from the field as the Harding women's basketball team picked up their second Gulf South Conference win of the season against Arkansas-Monticello 72-52 in Monticello, Ark. Harding improves to 9-8 on the season and 2-3 in the GSC West Division.

The Lady Bisons hit 25-of-48 (52.1 percent) shots from the field. It was the highest percentage of the season and it was the first time this season Harding has shot over 50 percent from the field.

It was the third time this season Owens has scored over 20 points in a game and the 17th in her career. Sophomore guard Sierra Rollins finished with 15 points and ended with a team high eight rebounds. Junior guard Bailey St. Clair had six steals in the game, tying Nancee Wilson (1990-91) for tenth place in a single season with 55.

The Harding defense held Arkansas-Monticello to 25 percent shooting from the field. It was the fourth time this season the Lady Bisons have held an opponent to shooting under 30 percent from the field.

Erika Brown led Arkansas-Monticello with 11 points, hitting 4-of-5 from the field.

The Cotton Blossoms didn't hit their first three-pointer in the game until 18:07 left in the second half. Arkansas-Monticello missed their previous 11. The Cotton Blossoms finished 4-of-21 from behind the three-point line.

Harding finished with 38 points in the paint to the Cotton Blossoms 16. The Lady Bisons capitalized on the Cotton Blossoms 19 turnovers, turning them into 25 points.

The Lady Bisons will continue their road swing, heading to Cleveland, Miss., to take on Delta State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
