CLEVELAND, Miss. – Despite sophomore Sierra Rollins putting up 20 points and eight rebounds, the Harding women's basketball team fell to #6 Delta State 77-51 in Gulf South Conference play Thursday night. Harding moves to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in the GSC West Division.
Rollins scored 11 of her career high 20 points in the first half as she went 5-of-5 from the field. Harding hung around with Delta State (16-1, 5-1 GSC) in the first half, tying the game twice and took their only lead late in the first half. Delta State rallied and went on a 10-2 run in the last four minutes of the first half to take a 39-31 lead into the locker room. The Lady Bisons shot 66.3 percent from the field in the half.
The Lady Bisons shooting cooled off in the second half as the Lady Statesmen began to get hot. From the 14:43 mark until there was 3:43 left on the clock Harding went without a basket. Delta State led by as much as 29 during the time period.
Veronica Walker had a double-double on the night and was the only Lady Statesmen in double-figures. Walker ended with 34 points and 13 rebounds. Bug Cooper had 11 assists on the night for Delta State.
The Lady Statesmen scored 27 points on the Lady Bisons 21 turnovers. Harding only scored seven points on the Delta State 14 turnovers.
Harding's bench came into the game averaging 26.9 points per game. The Lady Bisons only scored 16 points in the game.
It was the 44th consecutive home victory for Delta State.
Harding will be back in action Saturday as they host Ouachita Baptist in the Rhodes Field House at 5:30 p.m.
