Harding Downs Ouachita Baptist, 79-58

SEARCY – Harding University junior Sam Brown came off the bench to score a career-high 20 points and lead the Bisons to a 79-58 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in Gulf South Conference action at the Rhodes Field House.

The victory snapped a five-game skid for Harding and moved the Bisons to 9-10 overall and 2-5 in GSC West play. Ouachita Baptist fell to 5-15 overall and 1-6 in conference.

Harding connected on 52 percent of its shots in both halves and led 38-27 at halftime. Ouachita Baptist pulled within five points at 56-51 on a Julian LeDay layup with 8:50 left, but Harding went on a 10-1 run over the next four minutes and pulled away.

Brown made 8-of-10 from the field and hit two of Harding's four three-pointers. Junior Kevin Brown added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Kirk Porter, who had a career-high 26 points in Harding's game Thursday at Delta State, scored 15 points and made 9-of-10 free throws. Redshirt freshman Bradley Spencer started for the first time Saturday and responded with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Austin Mitchell came off the bench to lead Ouachita Baptist in scoring with 12 points. He made 4-of-5 from three-point range. LeDay added 11 points as the Tigers shot just 33 percent from the field.

Harding outscored Ouachita Baptist 40-14 in the paint and 21-12 off turnovers.

The Bisons will be back in action Thursday, Feb. 4 against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.
