PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Harding women's basketball team made 21-of-23 free throws to close out a 75-54 victory over host team West Florida in the final round of the West Florida Classic on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Bisons improved to 8-3 on the season.
It was the first time since 2007 against Christian Brothers that the Lady Bisons have shot over 90 percent from the free throw line.
For the second straight game, junior Sierra Rollins captured a double-double for the Lady Bisons. Rollins had a team-high 13 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Michaela Brown hit 5-of-6 from the field and finished with a career-high 12 points. Senior guard Bailey St. Clair added 11 points and senior forward Kallie Bartee added 10 points for Harding.
The Lady Bisons didn't allow the Argonauts to make a 3-pointer as they went 0-for-10 in the game. It was the first time since 2006 against Lincoln (Mo.) that a Harding opponent didn't make a three-pointer and only the fourth time since 2000.
Harding also didn't allow any West Florida (7-6) players to score in double-digits. Keaund Merrieweather led the Argonauts with nine points. Jessica Young grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and five blocks for West Florida.
The Lady Bisons forced 23 turnovers and had 12 steals in the game.
The Lady Bisons outrebounded the Argonauts 41-35 in the game. It was the eighth straight game Harding has outrebounded their opponent.
Rollins received Most Valuable Player honors in the tournament. Rollins and Bartee were both named to the All-Tournament team.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action Jan. 5 when they travel to North Alabama at 11 a.m.
