RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Jessica Weatherford hit a layup with 12 seconds left to propel #5 Arkansas Tech past the Harding women's basketball team 62-61 in Gulf South Conference action Saturday night in Russellville, Ark. Harding falls to 11-10 overall and 4-5 in the GSC West Division.
Harding battled their way back into game from an 16 point deficit. Sophomore guard Sierra Rollins drove the lane for a layup and was fouled with 28 seconds remaining in the game. Rollins converted the three-point play by making the free throw to put the Lady Bisons up by one. Arkansas Tech
(22-1, 9-1 GSC) took the lead on Weatherford's layup. Harding had two more opportunities to get the win but missed both layups.
Rollins led the Lady Bisons with 19 points, hitting 7-of-9 from the free throw line. She also had five steals and seven rebounds in the contest. Senior forward Stacey Owens added 17 points and four steals for Harding. Junior Bailey St. Clair also ended in double-figures with 11 points.
Weatherford led the Golden Suns with a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She also had six blocks on the night. Natalia Santos finished with 15 points. Jenny Vining hit four three-pointers and finished with 12 points.
Harding forced 24 Arkansas Tech turnovers on the night. The Lady Bisons had 14 steals.
Arkansas Tech had seven blocks.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action Monday as they host Southern Arkansas at 5:30 p.m., in the Rhodes Field House.
