Harding Defeats Arkansas-Monticello, 67-57

SEARCY – Harding junior Kevin Brown scored 20 points and junior guard Stephen Blake added 17 to lead the Bisons to a 67-57 victory over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday night at the Rhodes Field House. The win kept Harding tied with Christian Brothers for fourth place in the Gulf South Conference West Division.

Arkansas-Monticello (12-10, 7-5) tied the game at 57-all on a Nick Carey three-pointer with three minutes left in the game. Harding (13-11, 6-6) then went on a 10-0 run to end the game. Sophomore Kirk Porter made a free throw and followed that with a jumper that put Harding ahead by three. Kevin Brown scored the next five points, including a three-point play on a dunk, and Trent Morgan sealed the victory with a pair of free throws.

Harding shot 45 percent in the game and outrebounded Arkansas-Monticello 40-31. The Boll Weevils entered the game as the GSC's leading rebounding team, averaging more than seven rebounds per game more than their opponents.

Blake connected on 5-of-8 shots, including three three-pointers, and scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half.

Carey and Gil Verner each scored 13 points to lead the Boll Weevils, who remained in sole possession of third place in the West Division despite the loss.

Harding plays its final non-conference game of the season Monday against North Alabama. The Bisons have two conference games remaining, Delta State at home on Feb. 25 and at Ouachita Baptist on Feb. 27.
