SEARCY – Senior Stacey Owens scored 19 points to lead the Harding women's basketball team past Arkansas-Monticello 65-51 in Gulf South Conference action Saturday night in Searcy, Ark. It was the third straight win for the Lady Bisons as they improve to 14-10 on the season and 7-5 in the GSC West Division.
Owens hit 6-of-10 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line hitting 6-of-6. She also had three steals.
Harding led 31-24 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Bisons built on their lead and led by as much as 20 points.
Junior guard Bailey St. Clair had 13 points for Harding and added nine rebounds and three steals. St. Clair is the Harding single-season steals leader as she improved her season total to 74 on the night. Senior Meaghen Kelleybrew had 12 points and five rebounds for the Lady Bisons.
Arkansas-Monticello (10-14, 4-8 GSC) was led by Yelitza Rivera who had 11 points on the night. Monica Perkins-Miller had 11 rebounds for the Cotton Blossoms. Chelsea Johnson had five steals on the night for UAM.
Harding led the paint war scoring 30 points to the Cotton Blossoms 16.
Arkansas-Monticello turned Harding's 23 turnovers into 24 points.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action Monday as they host North Alabama at 5:30 p.m., in the Rhodes Field House.
