Billy Morgan's Call of the Game-Winning Shot
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding junior Kevin Brown drilled a jumper in the lane with six seconds remaining to give the Bisons a 72-71 victory over Ouachita Baptist in both teams' regular-season finale at Vining Arena.
As the game ended, Harding was still awaiting the results of the game between Arkansas Tech and Christian Brothers in Russellville, Ark., that would determine the Bisons' postseason fate. At 7:55 p.m., Harding got the result it needed to earn a berth in the GSC Tournament. Arkansas Tech defeated Christian Brothers 68-54, and Harding qualified as the fourth seed in the GSC West Division.
Harding will meet either Valdosta State or Alabama-Huntsville in the GSC Tournament on Friday at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Miss. The game time will be determined later.
Brown scored 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting. It was his seventh 20-point game of the season and 12th of his career. Trent Morgan and Kirk Porter both added 10 points for the Bisons.
Harding (16-11, 8-6) started GSC West Division with a 1-5 record but won seven of its last eight conference games to give itself a chance for postseason on the last day of the regular season.
Ouachita Baptist (8-19, 4-10) went ahead 71-70 with 20 seconds remaining on a long three-pointer by freshman Scott Day. Brown's answer gave Harding its first one-point victory of the season.
Austin Mitchell led Ouachita Baptist with 15 points, connecting on 5-of-6 from three-point range. Olden Jordan had 10 for the Tigers and Julian LeDay added 10.
