ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Four Lady Bisons end in double-figure scoring as the Harding women's basketball team defeated Ouachita Baptist 70-60 in Arkadelphia, Ark., Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Bisons finish the regular season with an 18-10 overall record and an 8-6 GSC West Division record and wrapped up the third seed in the upcoming GSC Tournament.
Since joining the GSC in 2000, the Lady Bisons have won eight games in the West Division four times. Eight is the most wins Harding has ever won in West Division and the most since the 2007-08 season.
Harding took a 34-20 lead into halftime. It was the fifth time this season the Lady Bisons have held their opponent to under 20 points in the first half. In the second half, Harding had a 10 point lead with 1:51 left to play but Ouachita Baptist hit five straight free throws in the next 41 seconds to cut the Lady Bisons lead to five. In the closing minute, Harding hit five straight free throws to seal the win.
Junior Bailey St. Clair led Harding with 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. St. Clair, the Harding single season steals leader, also added five steals on the afternoon to mover her season total to 84. Sophomore Sierra Rollins contributed 15 points to the Lady Bisons total. She also had eight rebounds. Senior Stacey Owens had three 3-pointers and ended with 12 points for Harding. Fellow senior Meaghen Kelleybrew had 10 points in the game.
A'Laeshia Adams led Ouachita Baptist (13-14, 5-9 GSC) with 24 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Gabby Coleman was the only other Lady Tiger in double-figures with 19 points. Coleman also had six steals for Ouachita Baptist.
Harding's defense held Ouachita Baptist to 29.4 percent shooting and forced 21 turnovers that the Lady Bisons turned into 21 points.
The Lady Tigers bench only contributed four points in the game.
The Lady Bisons will be the third seed in the GSC Tournament and will play North Alabama the #2 seed in the East Division on Thursday, March 4. Game time will be released Sunday.
