Lady Bisons Fall to No. 5 Arkansas Tech 77-67

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Harding women's basketball team couldn't pull off another big upset as they fell to Arkansas Tech 77-67 in Gulf South Conference action on Thursday night. The Lady Bisons fall to 13-5 on the season and 4-2 in the GSC West Division.

Harding stayed within five points of Arkansas Tech until the 10:22 mark in the second half. The Golden Suns went on a 13-2 run to take a 67-51 lead with 5:54 left in the game. The Lady Bisons rallied and pulled with nine with 33 seconds remaining when senior guard Danielle Reiher was fouled and hit both of her free throws. Arkansas Tech brought their starters back into the game which put a stop to the Lady Bisons run and snapped a four game Harding winning streak.

Arkansas Tech (15-2, 4-1 GSC) outrebounded Harding 44-30. It was only the second time this season Harding has been outrebounded. The Golden Suns held the Lady Bisons to only 14 in the second half.

Arkansas Tech held Harding to shooting 36.1 percent from the field (22-of-61). The Golden Suns also held the Lady Bisons to 1-of-15 from behind the arc (6.7 percent).

Despite the poor shooting percentage, Harding had four players that scored in double-figures. Junior guard Sierra Rollins led the Lady Bisons with 18 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Senior guard Bailey St. Clair and junior forward Cherilyn McMenamy each had 11 points and junior forward Kallie Bartee had 10 points.     

The Lady Bisons made 22-of-28 (78.6 percent) free throws in the game. It was the fifth time this season Harding has made over 20 free throws in a game.

Arkansas Tech shot 27-of-56 from the field (48.3 percent), including hitting 6-of-13 from behind the 3-point line (46.2 percent). Natalia Santos hit 9-of-16 from the field and finished with 23 points for the Golden Suns. Jenny Vining hit 3-of-7 3-pointers and ended with 17 points and Katie Horsman scored 15 points.

Harding forced 20 Arkansas Tech turnovers and was held to 13 turnovers. The Lady Bisons turned those turnovers into 21 points.

Harding will be back in action on Saturday as they host Henderson State at 5:30 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House in Searcy, Ark.
