Lady Bisons Open Gulf South Conference Action on Saturday

SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team opens Gulf South Conference action on Saturday as they host Ouachita Baptist at 5:30 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House. Since joining the GSC in 2000, the Lady Bisons are 6-4 in GSC openers.

NOTES FOR THE GAME

Harding enters the game with a 9-3 overall record after defeating North Alabama 65-59 this past Wednesday.  The Lady Bisons are looking for their four straight win after defeating District of Columbia and West Florida over the holiday break.

The game on Saturday will be the first time since joining the GSC the Lady Bisons have opened GSC play against OBU.

Junior guard Sierra Rollins leads the Lady Bisons, averaging 12.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. During the winning streak, Rollins has led Harding in scoring. Senior guard Bailey St. Clair isn't far behind her averaging 10.1 points and 3.7 steals per game.

When the NCAA Division II statistics came out on Jan. 2, The Lady Bisons ranked first in field-goal percentage defense (30.6 percent). After the game against North Alabama, the percentage increased to 31.4 percent.

Harding ranks in the top 10 in the NCAA Division II in three other categories: scoring defense, steals per game and 3-point field goal defense. The Lady Bisons rank fifth in scoring defense (49.6 pointers per game). The Lady Bisons rank eighth in steals per game (15.2) and rank ninth in 3-point field goal defense (23.5).

Harding ranks first in the GSC in steals. The Lady Bisons are averaging 15.1 a game. Leading the way is senior guard Bailey St. Clair who averages 3.7 a game.

Harding is coached by Tim Kirby, who is in his 6th season as head coach of the Lady Bisons. Kirby has compiled a 95-60 record at Harding.

Ouachita Baptist

Ouachita Baptist heads into the game with a 9-3 overall record. The Lady Tigers went 3-2 against GSC East Division teams in non-conference action.

In the GSC, OBU is currently tied with Henderson State in offensive rebounds averaging 17.2 a game.

The Lady Tigers are led by A'Laeshia Adams who averages 14.8 points and 2.5 steals per game. Gabby Coleman is close behind averaging 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Harding has won the last two meetings between the two schools and leads the overall series 32-23. In the last four games between the two schools, the Lady Bisons are 2-2 and the margin a victory is 10 points or less.
