Lady Bison Basketball Falls to No. 3 Delta State 70-53

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Harding women's basketball team couldn't complete the season sweep on No. 3 Delta State. The Lady Bisons fell 70-53 in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Harding falls to 14-7 overall and 5-4 in the GSC West Division.

Harding defeated then ranked No. 1 Delta State 69-66 in Searcy earlier this season to give the Lady Statesmen their only loss.

Delta State (20-1 overall and 8-1 GSC West Division) made 28-of-33 free throws for an 84.8 percentage. Harding who averages 25 attempts at the free throw line was held to a season low six attempts, making four of them. Harding went from 8:51 of the first half to 6:54 of the second half without shooting a free throw.

The Lady Statesmen was led by junior center Veronica Walker who shot 8-of-10 from the field and made 10-of-10 from the free throw line to finish with 26 points. Denesha Henderson added 12 points and Sheena Johnson had 11 points for Delta State.  

Harding was led by junior forward Sierra Rollins who made 11-of-15 from the field and ended with 23 points and seven rebounds. It was the third time this season Rollins has had over 20 points in a game. Senior guard Bailey St. Clair made three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points for the Lady Bisons.

Delta State forced Harding to 22 turnovers and turned them into 27 points.

Harding outshot Delta State. The Lady Bisons shot 22-of-52 from the field (42.3 percent) to the Lady Statesmen 20-of-51 (39.2 percent).

Harding will be back in action on Monday as they host Southern Arkansas at 5:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for last Thursday but do to the weather the game was postponed. It will be think pink night at the Rhodes Field House. Fans that wear a pink shirt will get into the game for free.
