SEARCY – Junior guard Sierra Rollins captured her eighth double-double, 20 points and 10 rebounds, as the Harding women's basketball team defeated Southern Arkansas 63-46 in Gulf South Conference action on Monday. The Lady Bisons improved 15-7 on the season and 6-4 in the GSC West Division.
The game was originally scheduled for last Thursday but due to weather conditions the game was postponed until Monday causing the Lady Bisons to play four games in a seven day span.
The win kept the Lady Bisons in fourth place in the GSC West Division. The top four teams from each division will advance to the conference tournament in March.
Rollins hit 8-of-13 from the floor and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. It was the second straight game she has scored over 20 points and the fourth time this season.
Harding held Southern Arkansas to only 14 field goals in the game (23.3 percent). It was the fewest field goals the Lady Bisons have held their opponent to in conference play.
After leading by a slim five point margin at halftime, the Lady Bisons hit three-straight layups to jump out to a 30-19 lead. Shelbi Cottingham hit a three for the Lady Muleriders to pull with eight with 17:21 left to play. It proved to be the last made field goal by SAU for the next nine minutes. During that time the Lady Bisons began to pull away taking a 45-25 lead with 9:05 left. The Lady Muleriders didn't get any closer than 17 as the Lady Bisons sealed the victory making 10-of-12 free throws in the remaining minutes.
Senior forward Danielle Reiher came off the bench for Harding to score 12 points for the Lady Bisons. Senior guard Bailey St. Clair added 10 points for Harding.
Kmaria Hobbs led SAU with 10 points. Goldie White had nine points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Harding outrebounded Southern Arkansas 40-35.
The Lady Bisons wore pink jerseys in the game in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Arkaansas-Monticello. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
