SEARCY – Junior guard Sierra Rollins recorded her third straight double-double as the Harding women's basketball team defeated a shorthanded Christian Brothers 50-44 in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday night. The Lady Bisons improved to 17-7 overall and 8-4 in the GSC West Division.
Harding has already clinched a spot at the GSC Tournament on March 2-6 but the Lady Bisons are still fighting for seeding. Currently HU is in fourth place, as the top four teams from each division advance to the conference tournament.
Rollins made six baskets and finished 13 points. She also led Harding on the boards with 11. Senior forward Danielle Reiher continued her great play of late, shooting 5-of-9 from the field, including three 3-pointers, as she also scored 13 points for Harding.
After building a 30-18 lead at the half, the Lady Bisons went on a 12-4 run to start the second half as Reiher hit a 3-pointer at the 14:09 mark to put Harding up by 17. The Lady Bisons went the next 13 and a half minutes without scoring another field goal. During the drought, the Lady Bucs rallied and cut the lead to four with 1:37 left to play. Rollins hit a layup and the Lady Bisons made 3-of-4 free throws to seal the victory.
Due to injuries Christian Brothers (8-16, 1-11 GSC) only played six players in the contest. Three players played the full 40 minutes. Normanique Johnson led the Lady Bucs with 17 points, hitting 8-of-12 from the free throw line. Jessica Green scored 11 points.
The Lady Bucs shot 12-of-40 from the field (30.0 percent), including 6-of-27 from behind the 3-point line (22.2 percent). The Lady Bisons didn't shoot much better, only making 17-of-44 shots (38.6 percent). It tied the fewest made shots in conference play.
After playing four games in seven days, the Lady Bisons will take tomorrow off before they start gearing up for Thursday as they host No. 5 Arkansas Tech. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
