ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding women's basketball team had five players foul out and fell 80-79 in overtime to Henderson State at the Duke Wells Center. It was the last regular season game for both teams.
Harding dropped to 17-9 overall and 8-6 in the Gulf South Conference West Division. The Lady Bisons' season will continue Thursday at the GSC Tournament in Southaven, Miss. Harding will be the fourth seed from the West Division and will meet GSC East top seed North Alabama.
It was the season finale for Henderson State, which finished 15-11 and 6-8 in Gulf South Conference play.
There were 65 fouls called in the game, and the teams combined to shoot 97 free throws.
Harding had two chances on its final possession but missed two layups in the final five seconds of overtime. The Lady Bisons missed all eight field goal attempts in the overtime period, but still had a chance to win due to a perfect shooting effort, 8-of-8, from the free throw line.
Harding trailed 71-69 late in the second half, but junior Cherilyn McMenamy made a layup with three seconds left to send it to overtime.
Bailey St. Clair led Harding with 27 points and eight rebounds. She was one of four Lady Bison starters to foul out of the game. Junior Sierra Rollins, Harding's leading scorer for the season, fouled out with more than 11 minutes left in the second half. She had 12 points and eight rebounds.
McMenamy scored 14 points for Harding, eight at the foul line, and Kristen Celsor had 13 before fouling out.
Harding committed 35 fouls, and Henderson State shot 35-of-53 at the free throw line. The Lady Bisons shot 34-of-44 from the free throw line.
Nyeshia Adams led Henderson State with 22 points. She was one of four Lady Reddies with 10 or more points.
