CONWAY, Ark. – Central Baptist's Matt Cole scored twice less than three minutes apart and the Mustangs defeated Harding 3-0 on Tuesday despite having half as many shots as the Bisons.
Harding (3-7-1) had chances throughout the game but struggled with its accuracy. The Bisons had 16 shots, its second-highest total in a game this season, but had only three shots on goal.
Cole, a senior from Van Buren, Ark., scored in the 18th minute and added a second goal in the 21st minute. They were his only two shots in the game. The Mustangs had only eight shots as a team, the fewest allowed by the Bison defense this season.
Central Baptist (4-4-1) made it 3-0 on a goal by Ryan Pelser in the 32nd minute.
The Bisons made a goalkeeper change at halftime. Senior Zach Auala started the game but did not make a save and allowed three goals. Redshirt freshman Will Lynn played the second half and recorded one save.
Harding, who has played six games in the last 12 days, will have 10 days off before beginning Gulf South Conference play on Oct. 7 at Alabama-Huntsville.
