SEARCY - Harding plays its second straight Great American Conference game to open the 2011 season when it hosts Henderson State on Saturday, Sept. 10 at First Security Stadium. The game will be a matchup of the teams picked to finish first and second in the GAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Harding defeated Southern Arkansas 63-14 last Saturday in its first-ever GAC game. The Bisons will look to start a season 2-0 for the first time since opening up the 2005 season with wins over Southwest Baptist (47-14) and Missouri Southern (45-27).

QUICK HITS

·         With the victory over Southern Arkansas, Harding has won nine of its last 10 season openers.

·         In the SAU game, Harding set program records for rushing yards in a game (515) and rushing touchdowns (7). The Bisons were the only team in Division II to rush for seven touchdowns and the 515 yards ranked second among Division II teams.

·         Harding senior kicker/punter Eddy Carmona was named Great American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after setting a school record by connecting on 9-of-9 extra points and landing all four of his punts inside the 20.

·         Henderson State leads the all-time series between the two teams 28-17-1, but Harding has won the last six meetings in Searcy.

·         Harding had 28 players make their Bison debuts against Southern Arkansas, 11 on offense, 16 on defense and one on special teams.

·         Harding is 39-18 (.684) at home since 2000.

·         Harding senior Kale Gelles ranks 16th in career rushing with 1,422 yards. He needs only four yards to move past James Joyce (1980-83) into 15th.

·         Harding had two interception returns for touchdowns against Southern Arkansas. It was only the second time in program history that the Bisons returned to interceptions for touchdowns in the same game. The other came in 1968 against Centenary, when Charles Caffey and David Reves each returned interceptions for touchdowns.

·         Harding plays its second straight home game Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. vs. Shepherd Technical College. It will be the first meeting between the teams.
