SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team travels to Weatherford, Okla., to face Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at 2 p.m., in Great American Conference action. It's the second of a three game road trip for the Lady Bisons.
Harding heads into the contest with a 9-3 overall record and a 2-0 GAC record. It's the first time since the 1998-99 season the Lady Bisons have opened conference play with two straight wins.
HU is led by senior guard Sierra Rollins who averages 15.8 points (fourth in the GAC) and 9.2 rebounds per game (second in the GAC) for the Lady Bisons.
Southwestern Oklahoma State is coming off a big win over No. 1 Arkansas Tech on Thursday. The Bulldogs defeated the Golden Suns 85-82. SWOSU heads into the game with a 7-5 overall record and a 2-1 GAC record. The Bulldogs only conference loss came at Henderson State in their conference opener 82-69.
The Bulldogs have three players that average over 10 points per game. SWOSU is led by senior guard Darcie Dick who averages 16.3 points (second in the GAC) and 5.4 rebounds. Senior center Sumiya Darden is close behind averaging 15.8 points (third in the GAC). So far this season, Darden is shooting 62.7 percent from the field (second in the GAC). Junior's MaRiah Oyler and SaRaya Oyler (twins) each average 10.3 points per game.
SWOSU leads the series between the two teams 4-3. Harding is 0-3 all-time in Weatherford. It's the first meeting between the two teams since the 1999-00 season. HU fell at SWOSU 57-56.
