SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team will play their first of three games this week as they travel to Russellville, Ark., to face No. 9 Arkansas Tech in Great American Conference action on Monday. The Lady Bisons head into the game with a 10-5 overall record and a 3-2 GAC record.
Harding is coming off a 60-56 GAC win over Southeastern Oklahoma State last Saturday. The Lady Bisons will have a busy week. Along with Monday's night's game, HU will host Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday and Henderson State on Saturday.
The Lady Bisons are led by senior guard Sierra Rollins who averages 15.6 points (third in the GAC) and 9.9 rebounds a game (first in the GAC). Sophomore forward Kristen Celsor has come on strong of late, averaging 13.5 points in the last two games for the Lady Bisons. Celsor led HU with 18 points against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Harding ranks first in the GAC in scoring defense (58.1). HU is second in the conference in four categories – free throw percentage (72.9), field goal percentage defense (35.7), rebounding margin (+6.7) and blocked shots (3.7).
No. 9 Arkansas Tech, has rebounded and won their last two games, after falling to Southwestern Oklahoma State and East Central last weekend. ATU heads into the contest with an 11-2 overall record and a 3-2 GAC record. The Golden Suns opened their season 9-0.
Arkansas Tech has four players that average double-figure scoring. Leading the way is Natalia Santos who averages 18.6 (first in the GAC) points and 9.1 rebounds per game (second in the GAC). Roselis Silva averages 12.3 points and 5.7 assists per game. Jessica Weatherford averages 10.9 points and Katie Horsman is close behind averaging 10.0 points per game.
Arkansas Tech leads the series between the two teams 49-2.
