SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team opens Great American Conference action at home on Saturday as they host Southern Arkansas at 5:30 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons head into the game with a 7-3 overall record.
Harding has won five of their last six games. Over the holiday break, the Lady Bisons participated in the West Florida Classic in Pensacola, Fla. HU went 1-1 in the tournament as they fell to Texas Woman's 62-52 and defeated the host team West Florida 53-46.
The Lady Bisons are led by senior guard Sierra Rollins who averages 15.7 points (third in the GAC) and 9.3 rebounds a game (first in the GAC). Rollins has captured five double-doubles this season ranking her 22nd in NCAA Division II.
As a team, HU ranks second in the GAC in four categories - scoring defense (58.4), free throw percentage (73.6), rebounding margin (+5.4) and blocked shots (3.7).
Southern Arkansas has had a rough start to the season with a 0-11 record. The Lady Muleriders opened GAC play this past Thursday as they hosted Southeastern Okla. State. SAU fell to the Savage Storm 44-63. The Lady Muleriders are led by senior center Kmaria Hobbs who averages 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds. Hobbs missed the first eight games of the season due to injury.
Harding leads the series between the two teams 32-20. The Lady Bisons have won the last three straight. HU is 19-7 all-time against the Lady Muleriders in Searcy.
