Men's Soccer by Scott Goode (10/12/12)

Upset-Minded: HU Men's Soccer Meets MIAA Leader Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Harding men's soccer faces one of its toughest tests of the season Saturday as it meets MIAA-leader Lindenwood at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.

Harding (4-7-3, 2-3-1) enters the game with nothing to lose. The Bisons have two ties and three losses in their last five games since winning 3-0 over Upper Iowa on Sept. 28. Harding is in fifth place in the MIAA standings with seven points (3 for wins, 1 for ties) and trails fourth-place Fort Hays State by five points with four games remaining. The top four teams advance to the MIAA Tournament.

Harding is coming off a 1-1 tie at Southwest Baptist on Thursday in Bolivar, Mo. The Bisons took a 1-0 lead on Jackson Savage's third goal of the season in the 52nd minute. The Bearcats evened the game with 33 seconds remaining in regulation on a rebound goal by Kaleb Romero that followed a saved penalty kick.

Lindenwood, ranked No. 3 in the NCAA II Central Region rankings, is 7-2-3 overall and unbeaten at 4-0-2 in the MIAA. The Lions are the top defensive team in the MIAA with only eight goals allowed all season and four in conference games. Lindenwood has shutout four of its last five opponents and has seven shutouts this season.

Harding and Lindenwood have met only once in men's soccer. The Lions defeated the Bisons 2-1 last season in Searcy.
