SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team travels to Texas for two games this weekend. The Lady Bisons will face St. Mary's in San Antonio on Saturday at 3 p.m., and then travel to Austin on Sunday to face St. Edward's at 2 p.m. HU heads into the weekend with a 1-1 record.
Harding is coming off a 78-62 loss at Central Missouri last Thursday. The Lady Bisons hit nine 3-pointers in the contest. Junior forward Kristen Celsor led HU with 20 points hitting 8-of-17 from the field, including four 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Tabitha Haney also hit four 3-pointers and ended with 12 points. Sophomore forward Arielle Saunders had 16 points, hitting 6-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from the free throw line.
HU is led on the season by sophomore guard Shana Holmes who averages 11.5 points per game.
St. Mary's is a NCAA Division II member of the Heartland Conference and heads into Saturday with a 3-1 record. The Lady Rattlers started the season 3-0 with wins over Cameron, Minnesota-Duluth and Missouri S&T. Their only loss came against Central Missouri (74-72). STMU is led by Jackie Woods who averages 14.5 points per game. Morgan Pullins averages 12.5 points and leads the Lady Rattlers on the boards averaging 7.8 rebounds a game.
The two teams met for the first time last season in Searcy. Harding won 77-53.
St. Edward's is also a NCAA Division II member of the Heartland Conference. The Hilltoppers head into the game with 2-2 record. SEU is led by Maddie Wheeler who averages 14.8 points per game. Dawn Kiel also averages in double-figure scoring, averaging 12.0 points.
Harding defeated St. Edward's 66-56 last season in Searcy. It was the first meeting between the two teams.
