Women’s Basketball Falls to St. Mary’s 78-58

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Despite sophomore guard Shana Holmes scoring a career-high 23 points in front of her home crowd, the Harding women's basketball team fell to St. Mary's 78-58 on Saturday in non-conference action.

Holmes went 9-of-14 from the field including three 3-pointers. She scored 15 of her 23 points in the second half. Holmes also had six rebounds, three assists and two steals for HU.

Sophomore guard Montana Lewis also hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for Harding.

After trailing at halftime 33-31, St. Mary's opened the second half on a 10-2 run, as they took the lead 41-35 with 17:11 left to play. Harding (1-2) didn't get any closer than four the rest of the game.  The Lady Rattlers shot 61.8 percent in the second half and led by as much as 28.

St. Mary's (4-2) was led by Lia Kioa who came off the bench and scored 18 points, hitting 8-of-16 from the field. Morgan Pullins also came off the bench and scored 16 points. The Lady Rattlers' bench combined for 48 points.

Harding couldn't get their offense going in the second half as St. Mary's held HU to only nine field goals (9-of-29). After hitting seven 3-pointers in the first half, HU went cold making only one (1-of-11) in the second half.

St. Mary's dominated the paint outscoring Harding 50-16. The Lady Rattlers scored 23 points off Harding's 20 turnovers.

The Lady Bisons will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Austin, Texas to face St. Edward's at 2 p.m.
