AUSTIN, Texas – The Harding women's basketball team bounced back after a loss on Saturday and defeated St. Edward's 74-61 on Sunday in non-conference action. The Lady Bisons improved to 2-2 on the season.
Harding shot 56.9 percent in the game, making 29-of-51 from the field. It's the first time this season HU has shot over 50 percent in a game.
Four Harding players had over 10 points in the game. Sophomore guard Shana Holmes led HU with 15. Sophomore forward Arielle Saunders made 7-of-10 from the field and finished with 14 points. Junior guard Lauren Crenshaw had a career-high 11 points and sophomore guard Montana Lewis had 10 points.
St. Edward's led 27-14 with 11:12 left in the first half until the Lady Bisons went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to three with 7:45 left in the half. Harding took their first lead, 31-30 with six minutes left on two free throws by Shana Holmes. HU led 42-38 at halftime.
The Lady Bisons kept their momentum in the second half as they led by 11 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. A 3-pointer by Maddie Wheeler put the Hilltoppers within eight with 7:45 left but three straight layups put HU back on top 64-50. Harding kept building on their lead and led by as much as 19. Lady Bison Montana Lewis scored all of her 10 points in the second half.
The Harding defense forced 29 turnovers and turned them into 32 points. The Lady Bisons held the Hilltoppers to shooting 38.5 percent in the game. HU also had a season-high of 14 steals led by senior guard Deshelle Isaac-Boyce who had a career-high five.
St. Edward's (3-3) was led by Dawn Kiel who had 19 points. Stephan Dekkers hit four of the eight SEU 3-pointers and finished with 16 points.
The Lady Bisons will have the week off before opening Great American Conference play at home on Saturday, Dec. 1 against Southern Nazarene. Tip-off is at 2 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House.
