Lady Bison Basketball Extends Winning Streak against SWOSU

SEARCY – Harding women's basketball won its seventh straight, continued its unbeaten run at home, and remained atop the Great American Conference standings with a 73-54 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at Rhodes Field House.

Sophomore Kristen Celsor and freshman Montana Lewis each scored 24 points to lead the Lady Bisons. Harding (16-5, 9-2) improved to 10-0 at home and leads Arkansas Tech by one game for the conference lead.

Southwestern Oklahoma State (13-9, 8-4) lost its fourth straight after opening conference play with eight straight wins.

Harding led 34-31 at halftime and gradually built its lead in the second half with solid defense. The Lady Bisons limited the Lady Bulldogs to only 23 points on 25 percent shooting. SW Oklahoma made only 1-of-9 3-pointers in the second half.

For the game, Harding converted 19 Southwestern Oklahoma turnovers into 26 points. The Lady Bisons had only six turnovers, their fewest in a game this season.

Celsor shot 9-of-22 from the field and made five 3-pointers. Lewis was 6-of-15 from the field, 12-of-20 from the free throw line, and had a team-high 12 rebounds.

Harding freshman Arielle Saunders came close to a triple-double. She had nine points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Senior Darcie Dick led Southwestern Oklahoma with 17 points, and Sumiya Darden had 11 points and 15 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs shot only 29 percent and missed 15 of their 20 3-pointers.

Saturday's game was the second of three straight home games for the Lady Bisons. Harding closes out the home stand Thursday against Ouachita Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
