SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team looks for their eighth-straight win on Thursday as they host Ouachita Baptist at 5:30 p.m., in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons head into the game with a 16-5 overall record and a 9-2 GAC record.
HU defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 68-50 last Saturday to stay in first place in the GAC standings. The Lady Bisons have already sealed a trip to the conference tournament held March 1-4th in Bartlesville, Okla.
Harding's last loss came against Ouachita Baptist earlier this season in Arkadelphia. The Lady Bisons fell 80-76 in overtime. Freshman guard Montana Lewis led HU with 20 points. Senior guard Sierra Rollins had 18 points and 17 rebounds. A'Laeshia Adams led OBU with 32 points, hitting 8-of-16 from the field and 16-of-20 from the free throw line. Harding leads the series between the two teams 32-26. OBU has won the last three meetings. HU leads the series in Searcy 17-12.
Harding is led by sophomore forward Kristen Celsor who is averaging 12.6 points per game. Lewis has scored over 20 points in the last two games for the Lady Bisons, earning her GAC player of the week honors on Tuesday. Freshman forward Arielle Saunders has led HU on the boards in the last two games, averaging 12.5 rebounds a game.
Harding ranks first in the GAC in four categories - scoring defense (56.8), field goal percentage defense (34.8), blocked shots (4.0) and assist-to-turnover margin (0.9). HU is second in the conference in four other categories – scoring margin (12.7), 3-point field goal made (6.4), rebounding margin (+8.4) and assists (14.9).
Ouachita Baptist has won their last three games, two on the road, and head into the game with a 14-8 overall record and 7-5 GAC record. The Lady Tigers have also scored 80 or more points in their last seven wins including scoring 88 or more points in their last three games.
Four Lady Tigers average in double-figure scoring. A'Laeshia Adams leads the way, averaging 13.3 points. Nashia James averages 11.8 points and Domino Miller is close behind her averaging 11.2 points. Tamara Robinson averages 10.3 points and leads OBU on the board averaging 5.7 rebounds.
