SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team looks to remain tied for first place in the Great American Conference standings as they travel to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
Harding heads into the game with a 16-6 overall record and a 9-3 record after falling to Ouachita Baptist 76-60 on Thursday. With the loss, and the Arkansas Tech win, the Lady Bisons are tied with the Golden Suns in the conference standings. Before Thursday night, HU won their last seven, with their last two losses coming against Ouachita Baptist.
The Lady Bisons defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 60-56 earlier this season in Searcy. Sophomore forward
Kristen Celsor led Harding with 18 points. HU held SOSU to only 16 field goals and shooting 32.7 percent from the field. Harding leads the series between the two teams 4-3.
Harding is led by Celsor who is averaging 12.3 points per game. Freshman forward
Montana Lewis, reigning GAC Player of the Week, averages 10.0 points per game. Freshman forward
Arielle Saunders has led HU on the boards in the last three games, averaging 11.6 rebounds a game.
Harding ranks first in the GAC in four categories - scoring defense (56.8), field goal percentage defense (34.8), blocked shots (4.0) and assist-to-turnover margin (0.9). HU is second in the conference in four other categories – scoring margin (12.7), 3-point field goal made (6.4), rebounding margin (+8.4) and assists (14.9).
Southeastern Oklahoma State heads into the game with a 9-14 overall record and a 5-8 record in the GAC. The Savage Storm is sixth in GAC standings after dropping their last four games including a 71-52 loss to Arkansas Tech on Thursday. When SOSU faces HU it will be their second of three straight home games.
The Savage Storm led by Whitney Coffey who averages 11.1 points per game. Nikki Nester is very close behind averaging 11.0 points. Ashley Hobbs averages 10.8 points and leds the SOSU on the boards, averaging 6.6 rebounds per game.
