Lady Bison Basketball Travels to Henderson State for Regular Season Finale

Game Notes

SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team will play its final regular season game on Saturday as it travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Henderson State at 2 p.m., in Great American Conference action.

Harding heads into the contest with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-6 GAC record. The Lady Bisons are currently tied with Ouachita Baptist for third place in the GAC standings. Ouachita Baptist will host Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday. A Ouachita Baptist victory would drop Harding to fourth. With two victories over Harding, OBU holds the tiebreaker.

The Lady Bisons defeated Henderson State 66-49 earlier this season in Searcy. Senior forward Cherilyn McMenamy led HU with 20 points. Harding held Henderson State to shooting 34.6 percent from the field and 21.1 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Harding is led by Celsor who is averaging 13.8 points per game. Freshman forward Arielle Saunders has led HU on the boards in the last four games, averaging 10.3 rebounds a game.

Saunders needs nine more blocks (currently at 34) to set the single-season record currently held by Nancee Wilson (1989-93) who had 42 during the 1991-92 season. As a team, the Lady Bisons set the single season block record against Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday with two, adding to their season count of 98. The previous record of 97 was recorded during the 1991-92 season.

Harding ranks first in the GAC in four categories - scoring defense (60.1), field goal percentage defense (36.1), blocked shots (3.9) and assist-to-turnover margin (0.9). HU is second in the conference in scoring margin (6.6).

Henderson State heads into the game with a 13-12 overall record and a 6-9 GAC record after defeating Southern Arkansas 70-68 on Thursday in Magnolia. The Lady Reddies are 2-9 in their last eleven games and are 9-3 at home this season.

HSU is led by Cheree Freeman who averages 13.2 points. Crystal Harrison also averages double-figures with 10.4 points per game. Destiny Smith leads the Lady Reddies on the boards averaging 7.6 rebounds per game.
