SEARCY – The Harding Volleyball team stayed perfect in Great American Conference action Thursday as they defeated Ouachita Baptist, 3-1. The Lady Bisons improved to 10-3 overall, and 3-0 in the GAC.
With the win, Harding won their seventh-straight match.
The Lady Bisons defense had a season-high 88 digs, led by sophomore defensive specialist Taryn Eubank who had a career-high 27 digs. Junior defensive specialist Lisa Copeland added 18.
The Harding offense was led by Junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold who had 17 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Liv Savage led the team in hitting with a .409 hitting percentage and had 10 kills. Junior middle blocker Alyssa Short was the other Lady Bison in double-figure kills with 12.
Senior setter Amber Schinzing controlled the Harding offense with 51 assists.
Lady Bisons had a season-high nine aces led by Mollie Arnold and Amber Schinzing who both had three.
Harding had over 10 blocks for the second-straight match. The Lady Bisons racked up 11 total blocks, led by Alyssa Short who had eight. HU had 13 blocks against Arkansas Tech.
Ouachita Baptist (4-10, 1-2 GAC) was led by Megan Askew who had nine kills. The OBU defense was led by Allison Frizzell who had 25 digs.
In the first set, Harding jumped out to an 8-2 lead. The Lady Tigers did not get any closer than six the rest of the way as Harding took the set 25-11.
In set two, the Lady Bisons took a 13-5 lead until OBU went a 7-0 run to cut the lead to one (18-17). Harding then scored three-straight points to take the lead and did not look back as they took the set 25-22.
Ouachita Baptist wouldn't go down without a fight as they took a 15-14 lead in the third set as the Lady Tigers forced three-straight hitting errors. The Lady Tigers took the set 25-21.
In the fourth set, neither team took a lead until the Lady Bisons went on a 5-0 run by three services aces by Mollie Arnold after being tied at 15. OBU forced three-straight hitting errors as part of their 7-0 run to take a 22-20 lead. Ouachita Baptist served to tie the match but the Lady Bisons were not going to allow that to happen as HU had three-straight kills to take the set 28-26.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action next Tuesday (Sept. 25) as they travel to Arkansas-Fort Smith. First serve is at 7 p.m.
