Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Harding women's basketball team won their seventh straight game on Thursday as they defeated Southern Arkansas 91-44 in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons improved to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the GAC.
It was the most points by the Lady Bisons since the 2009 when HU defeated West Alabama 99-54. It was also the most points in a road game since 2009 when Harding fell at Ouachita Baptist 108-104.
The HU defense came to play as SAU's 44 points was the fewest by an opponent this season. Harding held the Lady Muleriders to shooting 26.3 percent from the field. It was the third time this season HU has held their opponent to shooting less than 30 percent.
The Lady Bisons were led by junior forward
Kristen Celsor who had 21 points, hitting 6-of-7 from the field in only 24 minutes of action. Celsor also hit 8-of-10 free throws. It was the fourth time this season Celsor has scored 20 or more points. She also led HU on the boards with nine. Sophomore guard
Shana Holmes scored all of her 18 points in the first half, hitting 7-of-12 from the field, including two 3-pointers.
Southern Arkansas (0-13, 0-8 GAC) was led by Tori Nichols who had 10 points. Nichols also led the Lady Muleriders in rebounds with seven.
The Harding defense had 15 steals, the most in a conference game this season. HU forced 19 Southern Arkansas turnovers and turned them into 24 points. The Lady Bisons won the battle in the paint scoring 54 points to Southern Arkansas' 14.
The Harding bench scored 31 points and was led by freshman forward
Anna Strickland and senior guard
Deshelle Isaac-Boyce who each had nine.
HU led 45-24 at halftime.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action on Saturday as they host Arkansas-Monticello at 5:30 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House.
