ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding junior wide receiver caught a slant pass from junior quarterback Keenan Kellett and went 74 yards for a touchdown to give the Bisons a 36-33 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in Great American Conference play at A.U. Williams Field.
The victory was Harding's fifth straight, and the Bisons improved to 5-1 overall and in conference play. Ouachita Baptist (5-1, 5-1) lost for the first time this season and for the second straight year in Arkadelphia. The Tigers scored only two touchdowns on seven trips inside the Bisons' 20-yard line.
Harding returns to Searcy next Saturday for Homecoming 2013. The Bisons' opponent will be nationally-ranked Henderson State with a 2 p.m. kickoff at First Security Stadium.
Ouachita Baptist took a 33-30 lead with only 1:56 remaining in the game on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tiger quarterback Benson Jordan to Ryan Perkins.
Harding took over on the Ouachita Baptist 24-yard line and gained two yards on first down. On the next play Kellett hit Luckett for only the third completed pass of the game for the Bisons. After a bad snap on the extra point attempt, placekicker John Gay's point after missed left and gave the Tigers the ball back trailing by only three.
Ouachita Baptist took over at the Harding 27 with 1:06 left. The Tigers picked up one first down on a pass interference penalty, but on first down at the 37, Jordan overthrew his intended receiver and Harding's Ashton Williams made the Bisons third interception of the game to seal the victory.
Harding had three turnovers in the first half, but Ouachita Baptist turned them into only three points. The Tigers had four trips to the Bison red zone in the first half but came away with only two field goals.
The Bisons had rushing touchdowns of 32 yards by Romo Westbrook and 14 yards by Ahmad Scott and trailed 20-14 at halftime.
Harding took an early lead in the second half on another Westbrook touchdown, this one from 18 yards out. Westbrook had 16 carries for 122 yards to become the first Bison since Chris Pierson in 1997 to rush for over 100 yards in three straight games. His second touchdown gave the Bisons a 21-20 lead with 12:40 left in the third quarter.
Ouachita Baptist retook the lead with 2:10 left in the third on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Jordan to Perkins to take a 26-21 advantage. The Tigers went for two to try to push the lead to seven, but Jordan's pass was intercepted by Darious Lane and returned 100 yards for two points to cut the OBU lead to 26-23.
Slot back Jason Oller gave the Bisons the lead back with 9:26 left with a 15-yard touchdown run to give Harding a 30-26 lead and set up the game's dramatic finale.
