HAYS, Kan. – Seventeenth-ranked Fort Hays State scored all four of their goals in the second half and defeated Harding 4-1 in MIAA men's soccer action Saturday.
The loss dropped Harding to 5-6-3 overall and 3-5-0 in MIAA play and ended the Bisons' hopes of qualifying for the MIAA Tournament. Upper Iowa will be the fourth and final team to qualify.
After a scoreless first half, Fort Hays' Carlos Linares made it 1-0 with a goal in the 54th minute. Harding answered with a goal 63 seconds later from junior Cole Walker, his second of the season. The assist came from his brother, Christopher Walker, and was his team-leading fourth assist.
Fort Hays put the game away with two goals less than two minutes apart. In the 62nd minute, Michael Cole scored his third, and Diego Cabral made it 3-1 in the 64th minute with his eighth goal.
Recardo Yeverino finished out the scoring with his team-leading ninth goal in the 81st minute.
Fort Hays outshot Harding 22-10, and the Bisons had only two shots on goal.
The game was the third of five straight road games to close out the season for the Bisons. Harding will play again Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Central Baptist in Conway, Ark.
