FAYETTE, Iowa – Upper Iowa's Leandro Pena scored with 27 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Peacocks a 4-3 victory in MIAA action Friday.
The loss drops Harding to a 2-4-1 overall record and a 1-3-0 mark in the MIAA. Upper Iowa is 5-3-1 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-1.
Harding fell behind early when Upper Iowa took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. Aaron Calkins scored his third goal of the season on a cross from Rafael Pedroso.
Less than a minute later, Harding answered with defender Gehrig Haberstock scoring his first goal of the season on a feed from Josiah Ireland in the fifth minute. Harding made it 2-1 in the 15th minute when Barry Foster scored his second goal of the season with an assist from Jeremy Rector.
Adam Borsheim scored his first goal of the season in the 39th minute to give Harding a 3-1 lead. It was the first time Harding scored three goals in a half since a four-goal second half against Williams Baptist on Oct. 18, 2011.
Harding's 3-1 halftime lead was short-lived. Upper Iowa's Rhys Williams scored in the 65th minute, and Ryan Pinkerton tied it in the 78th minute.
Five of Harding's eight games this season have gone to overtime, the most overtime games in a season in program history. The Bisons are 1-2-2 in those games.
The Bisons return to Searcy on Monday to meet Ouachita Baptist in non-conference action. The game begins at 7 p.m. at the Stevens Soccer Complex.
