FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Harding women's basketball team finished the Lady Lion Classic with a win on Saturday as they defeated Northeastern State 58-48. The Lady Bisons improved to 2-0 overall.
Junior guard Shana Holmes led Harding with 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers. Junior guard Montana Lewis had 11 points and senior guard Deshelle Isaac-Boyce had 10 points.
The Lady Bisons trailed for most of the first half as Northeastern led by as much as eight. Harding finished the half on a 9-0 run and took a 25-23 lead into halftime.
Northeastern State quickly tied the game in the opening minute of the second half on two free throws by Che'Ron Lewis. NSU kept the game close until Harding went on a 13-2 run as Lewis hit two 3-pointers for HU with 12:00 left in the game. The Lady Bisons extended their lead and led by as much as 23 over the next seven minutes to lead 54-31 with 5:07 left to play. Harding's lead proved to be too much for the Riverhawks to overcome as they finished the game on a 17-4 run.
Northeastern State (0-2) was led by Chelsey Beathard who had 11 points. Jamie Jackson had seven rebounds.
The Lady Bisons outrebounded NSU 41-30. Three different HU players had seven rebounds – junior forward Arielle Saunders, senior forward Kristen Celsor and freshman guard A'ndrea Haney.
Harding will be back in action on Thursday for its home opener against Christian Brothers at 5:30 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House.
