SEARCY – Junior guard Shana Holmes scored a season-high 22 points to lead the 19th-ranked Harding women's basketball team over East Central 81-45 in Great American Conference action on Thursday. The Lady Bisons stayed perfect on the season with a 7-0 overall record and a 2-0 GAC record.
It's the best start for Harding since the 2008-09 season with the Lady Bisons opened the season with a 12-0 record.
Holmes hit three 3-pointers and was 8-of-12 from the field. Senior forward Kristen Celsor scored 16 points hitting 7-of-9 from the field. Junior guard Tabitha Haney came off the bench and hit three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points.
Harding put the game out of reach in the first half as they went on a 24-0 run over 11 minutes. The Lady Bisons held East Central to 0-for-11 from the field and forced 10 Lady Tiger turnovers during the run. Harding led at the break 40-15. It was the fewest points by a Lady Bison opponent in a half this season.
Harding made 30-of-63 from the field (47.6 percent) and made 11 3-pointers in the game. It was the second straight game the Lady Bisons have made over 11 3-pointers. Harding had 11 against Central Missouri last Friday.
East Central (5-2, 1-2 GAC) was led by senior forward Alycea Price who had nine points.
For the first time this season Harding was outrebounded by its opponent. East Central had 39 to Harding's 37. The Lady Tigers were led by redshirt freshman forward Jalyn Jackson who had 10.
The GAC game that was scheduled for Saturday against Southeastern Oklahoma has been postponed because of inclement bad weather and will be played Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
