SEARCY – Junior forward Kristen Celsor led the Harding women's basketball team with 23 points as the Lady Bisons defeated Henderson State 76-69 in overtime in Great American Conference action on Thursday. HU improved to 14-7 overall and 10-5 in the GAC.
With the win, Harding is tied with Ouachita Baptist for fourth place in the GAC standings. Arkansas Tech leads the GAC with a 12-3 conference record. HU and OBU will meet on Saturday at 2 p.m., in Arkadelphia, Ark.
After trailing 64-62 with nine seconds remaining, Celsor was fouled with one second left in regulation. She knocked down both of her free throws to tie the game at 64. Henderson State's last ditch effort was blocked by Celsor to send the game into overtime.
Harding took a 71-69 lead with 42 seconds left in overtime on a Celsor layup. Then sophomore guard Shana Holmes stole the ball away from HSU and made a layup with 31 seconds left as Harding took a 73-69 lead. The Lady Bisons forced another turnover and then made 3-of-4 free throws to seal the win. Henderson State was 0-of-5 from the field in overtime. It was Harding's first overtime win since 2008 against St. Edwards as HU won 91-87.
Senior guard Deshelle Isaac-Boyce scored a career-high 16 points, hitting 5-of-8 from the field and 6-of-8 free throws. She also tied a career high in steals with five. Celsor had a career-high six assists to lead HU.
Henderson State (10-11, 5-10 GAC) was led by junior guard Krystal Beachum who had 18 points. Senior forward Destiny Smith had 13 points and senior guard Jill Temples had 10 points.
Henderson State outrebounded Harding 47-38. Junior forward Shareka Maner led HSU with a game-high 12 rebounds. Celsor grabbed five offensive boards and led HU with eight.
The Harding defense forced the Lady Reddies to 21 turnovers. The Lady Bisons had 11 steals and eight blocks. Celsor led HU with four blocks. It was the fourth time this season Celsor has had four blocks in a game.
Despite missing 28 layups, the Lady Bisons dominated the paint scoring 44 points to HSU's 28.
