SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Harding men's tennis team braved sub-freezing temperatures to defeat NCAA Division III John Brown 9-0 on Thursday.
It was Harding's second straight victory and gave the Bisons a 6-3 overall record. John Brown (0-4) lost its fourth straight to open the season.
Harding won the three doubles matches and three of the singles matches went the distance. Due to the temperatures, the final three singles matches were shortened to a single pro-set.
Matheus Mosquera-Carrascosa and Caleb McReynolds won their fourth match of the season and their second straight with an 8-3 victory at No. 1. Adam Edwards and Felipe Carbonari teamed for the first time with an 8-4 victory at No. 2, and Alex Ford and Germans Uglovs moved to 2-0 with an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Uglovs played No. 1 singles for the first time this season and won 6-2, 6-2 for his fourth straight singles victory. Ford won his fifth singles match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Mosquera-Carrascosa improved to 4-1 with an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
McReynolds improved to 4-3 with an 8-2 victory at No. 4. Carbonari won his second singles match with an 8-2 win at No. 5, and Sammy Lhotak won his first singles match this season 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Harding's next action is Mar. 5 at LeMoyne-Owen in Memphis, Tenn.
