ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding men's soccer team collected its first victory of the season Tuesday with a 3-1 triumph over Ouachita Baptist in the Bisons' first road game of the season.
The game was delayed by lightning with 16:55 left to go in the game and Harding with a three-goal lead. It resumed after a one hour, 10 minute delay.
The victory gives Harding a 1-1-2 record ahead of Friday's Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opener at home against nationally-ranked Northeastern State.
Junior Ian Park scored both of Harding's first half goals. His first came in the 10th minute. Park controlled a failed clearance attempt in the top of the box, turned and fired inside the left post. His second came in the 23rd minute on a cross from Gehrig Haberstock.
Harding's third goal came in the 70th minute as freshman Barry Foster took a through ball from Adam Borsheim, eluded Ouachita Baptist's onrushing goalkeeper David Henley, and tapped in the shot.
Ouachita Baptist's only goal came after the delay. In the 76th minute, Nathan Gay headed in Brandon Hom's corner kick to avert the shutout.
Park's two goals were the sixth and seventh of his career and gave him his first multi-goal game.
Harding outshot Ouachita Baptist 23-12 and won for the first time in Arkadelphia since 2007.
