Lady Bison Soccer Suffers First Conference Loss on Sunday

SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer team fell to Southern Nazarene 3-2 on Sunday in Great American Conference on a soaked field. The Lady Bisons fall to 4-9-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the GAC.

The loss snapped a nine game conference win streak by Harding that dated back to last season. It was the longest GAC winning streak without tying. Southwestern Oklahoma won 16 straight but had two ties during its streak.

Southern Nazarene (5-7-0, 3-2-0 GAC) scored the only goal in the first half when sophomore forward Alyssa Glitzke sent a throughball up the left side that found freshman midfielder Hannah Robinson. It was her third goal of the season.

The Crimson Storm made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute when freshman defender Brianna Evans stole the ball from the Harding defense and took a shot from 25 yards out that went over the goalkeeper to the upper right corner of the net.

The Lady Bisons pulled within one in the 61st minute when sophomore midfielder Averie Alright headed the ball to junior midfielder Adair Schmidt who headed the ball into the back of the net. It was her fifth goal of the season.

Southern Nazarene made it a two goal deficit for Harding in the 67th minute when senior midfielder Bekah Stewart sent a throughball up the left side that found senior forward Mallary Pineda for her eighth goal of the season.

Three minutes later, Harding pulled within one again off a corner kick that was taken by freshman defender Devin Patterson. Her kick found the head of sophomore defender Hannah Wilhelm who scored her first career goal.

Harding took 17 shots, nine were on goal. Southern Nazarene had 14 shots and seven were on goal.

The Lady Bisons will wrap up a five game homestand on Friday as they host Ouachita Baptist in GAC action at 7 p.m., on senior night.
