SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team defeated Arkansas-Monticello 3-0 on Tuesday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons improved to 13-6 overall and 7-2 in the GAC.
With the win, Harding improved its home winning streak to 29 matches which dates back to 2011. It is the second longest home winning streak in Lady Bisons history. Harding won 36 from 2003-05.
Harding has also won its last three GAC matches. The Lady Bisons defeated Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State both by a 3-0 score.
Harding sported pink jerseys and sold t-shirts before and after the match as all the proceeds went to Carson Head who is an 8-year old girl battling cancer. She is currently in St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Harding was led by senior outside hitter Marindia Turner who had 12 kills and eight digs. Senior setter Taryn Eubank had 33 assists for Harding and sophomore defensive specialist Abigail Glosup had a team-high 10 digs.
Arkansas-Monticello (9-10, 4-6 GAC) was led by junior outside hitter Sydni Schulz who had 10 kills and eight digs. Junior defensive specialist Lani Kaiwi had a match-high 12 digs.
The first set went back and forth until Harding went on a 7-1 run to take an 18-13 lead. Arkansas-Monticello only scored four more points as the Lady Bisons closed the set on a 7-2 run.
Harding jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the second set and then scored seven of the next 10 points to lead 21-9. A Lady Bisons kill and a Cotton Blossoms attack error gave Harding the set and the lead in the match. Harding held Arkansas-Monticello to hitting -.026 in the set as they held them to only six kills.
Tied at seven, Harding slowly broke away as they went on a 13-6 run to take a 20-13 lead in set three. The Lady Bisons had nine kills during the run. Harding took the set 25-18.
Harding will take a break from GAC action on Thursday as they travel to Batesville, Ark., to face Lyon College at 7 p.m.
