SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team swept Ouachita Baptist 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-13) on Tuesday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons improved to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the GAC.
Harding improved its home winning streak to 27 matches with the win. It is the second longest home winning streak in the Lady Bisons history. Harding won 36 matches from 2003-05.
The Lady Bisons were led by senior middle blocker Liv Savage who had a match-high 13 kills and a match-high six blocks. The Harding defense was led by sophomore defensive specialist Anna Leigh Cargile who had a match-high 16 digs. Junior outside hitter Erica Heim had 14 digs for the Lady Bisons.
Ouachita Baptist (10-5, 3-4 GAC) was led by freshman middle blocker Kori Ballard who had six kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Ashley Wake had 14 digs. Sophomore setter Anna LeTourneau captured a double-double with 17 assists and 15 digs.
Harding jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set on two kills and two blocks. Ouachita Baptist slowly climbed its way back into the set and pulled within one, 14-13, on a service aces by Wake. Harding only allowed three more Tiger points the rest of the way as the Lady Bisons took set one 25-16. Savage had seven kills in the set.
The Lady Bisons took a 5-2 lead in the second set before Ouachita Baptist went on a 4-0 run to lead 6-5. Harding then rallied and went on a 10-2 run on seven kills, three by senior outside hitter Marindia Turner. The Tigers didn't get any closer than five points the rest of the way as the Lady Bisons went up 2-0 in the match with a 25-19 set win.
The third set was all Harding has they opened with an 11-0 run. Ouachita Baptist tried to rally with a 7-1 run but the Lady Bisons lead was too much to overcome. Harding won the set 25-13.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action on Thursday as they host Henderson State in GAC action at 7 p.m., at the Rhodes Field House.
