SEARCY – The 15th-ranked Harding women's basketball team held the 22nd-ranked Delta State to shooting 25 percent from the field as it went onto win 65-40 in non-conference action at the Rhodes Field House on Monday. Harding improves to 3-0 on the season.
The Lady Bisons were led by sophomore guard A'ndrea Haney who had 12 points and four assists. Senior forward Arielle Saunders added 11 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Harding shot 50 percent in the game, hitting 24-of-48 shots. The Lady Bisons also hit 10 3-pointers led by senior guard Tabitha Haney who had three.
Delta State (0-1) was led by senior forward Rhandi Ball who had 15 points and three steals.
After leading 36-25 at halftime, the Lady Bisons started the second half off slow as they only scored four baskets in the first 10 minutes. Harding regained its momentum in the next five minutes hitting two 3-pointers and two layups. The Lady Bisons grabbed their largest lead (25 points) with 26 seconds left on a layup by freshman forward Sydney Layrock.
Harding had 25 bench points in the game and held the Lady Statesmen to only nine. Layrock came off the bench and scored nine points for Harding and grabbed six rebounds.
