MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas senior Alre'k Brown hit a turnaround jumper with seven seconds remaining to give the Muleriders a 64-62 victory over Harding on Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Watson Athletic Center.
Harding (3-4, 1-1) had one last opportunity, but Will Francis' contested 3-point attempt at the buzzer was ruled a blocked shot.
Southern Arkansas (3-2, 2-1) overcame 9-of-27 shooting at the free throw line to win for the third time in four home games.
Junior Blake McNair led the Bisons with 17 points, made three 3-pointers, and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Junior Johnthan McGee scored 12.
Southern Arkansas' Alvin Braddock came off the bench to score 16 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds.
Brown made a jumper with 8:59 left that gave Southern Arkansas a 57-49 lead. The Bisons outscored the Muleriders 13-4 over the next seven minutes and two free throws from Harding's Antoine Burell gave the Bisons a 62-61 lead with 1:48 remaining.
Mulerider Chauncey Williams tied the game with a free throw at the 1:11 mark. Brown came up with a blocked shot on McGee's layup attempt on Harding's next possession, then hit the game-winning shot at the other end.
Harding will be back in action on the road Saturday at Arkansas-Monticello. Tipoff at the Steelman Fieldhouse will be at 4 p.m.
