No. 20 Harding Downs Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The 20th-ranked Harding women's basketball team won its 12th-straight Great American Conference game on Saturday as they defeated Arkansas-Monticello 69-49. The Lady Bisons improved to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in the GAC.

Harding was led by senior forward Arielle Saunders who captured her sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Correy Moyer added 12 points.

"I thought Arielle had a great mentality today," head coach Tim Kirby said. "She is getting more and more confident as the season goes along."

The Lady Bisons started the game slow as they only made four of their first 11 shots. They quickly found the bottom of the net as they closed the second half making 9-of-12. Harding held Arkansas-Monticello to only two field goals in the final 8:24 of the half. The Lady Bisons led 32-21 at the break.

Harding came out of the locker room and finished strong as they made 14-of-29 shots in the second half, including four 3-pointers.

"I thought we finished the game really well, Kirby said. "We did a good job on the board and our bigs did a good job of neutralizing them. They did not get very many scores in the low post."

Freshman guard Falan Miller came off the bench and scored 10 of Harding's 22 bench points. Miller was perfect from the field making 4-of-4 shots, including two 3-pointers.

Arkansas-Monticello (3-5, 2-2 GAC) was led by Jordan Goforth who had 19 points, making 6-of-6 free throws.

Harding held the Cotton Blossoms to shooting 30.8 percent from the field (16-of-52) and held them to shooting 25 percent from behind the 3-point line (5-of-20).

The Lady Bisons will play their first game at home since Nov. 22 next Saturday, Dec. 13th, as they host Henderson State at 5:30 p.m., in GAC action at the Rhodes Field House.
