SEARCY - No. 33 Harding men's tennis was unable to overcome two losses in the three doubles matches and lost 5-4 to No. 51 Nebraska-Kearney on Monday at the Harding Tennis Complex in a matchup of nationally and regionally-ranked teams.
Harding, No. 4 in the Central Region, dropped to 5-4 overall, 3-4 in regional matches and 1-3 against regionally-ranked opponents. Nebraska-Kearney, No. 7 in the region, improved to 10-4.
Harding's lone point in doubles came at No. 1 where freshmen
Mathaus Spiering and
Yann Le Mat won 8-5 over Yeswanth Nadella and Neto Cacace, the No. 6 doubles team in the Central Region.
The Bisons collected three wins in singles. At No. 1 Spiering, ranked No. 5 in the region, defeated Nadella, ranked No. 8, by scores of 6-3, 7-5. Spiering improved to 13-2 overall, 8-1 in dual matches, and 4-1 against regionally-ranked opponents.
Rowden won 6-0, 7-6 over Cacace at No. 2 for his 10th singles victory of the season, and
Brandon Hogland won 6-3, 6-3 over Justin Nguyen at No. 4.
The match was Harding's fourth straight against a nationally-ranked team and play No. 20 Northwest Missouri State on Friday in Bolivar, Mo.
