SEARCY – The Harding women's soccer team scored first but gave up two goals late in the second half to fall to Mississippi College 2-1 on Friday in non-conference action at the Stevens Soccer Complex. The Lady Bisons fall to 0-7-0 on the season.
Harding's goal came in first minute of the second half when sophomore defender Melita Sutherland sent a cross in from the left side to the center of the goal that found junior midfielder Audrey Adkison. Her shot found the upper middle of the goal and was her second of the season.
In the 78th minute, Mississippi College (5-1-0) tied the game when the ball came off the Harding goalkeeper's hands on a goal mouth scrabble. Senior midfielder Lauren Prescott found the ball and scored on the wide open net.
The Lady Choctaws scored the go ahead goal in the 81st minute when senior forward Macey Lee sent a cross in from the right side that found Prescott. Her shot was a slow roller to the lower left corner of the net. It was her second goal of the season.
The Lady Bisons had a scoring opportunity in the first half when freshman forward Carley Stevens was sent a throughball up the right side but Stevens' shot found the goalkeeper Robin Cooper.
Harding will have the week off before traveling to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Ouachita Baptist to open Great American Conference play on Sept. 25th at 3 p.m.
