Volleyball Sweeps Lyon on Tuesday

SEARCY – The Harding volleyball team defeated Lyon 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 26-24) on Tuesday in non-conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

RECORDS

Harding improves to 8-10 overall and Lyon fall to 7-10.

SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS

Harding took a 9-4 lead early in the first set and then won nine of the next 16 points to lead 19-11. The Lady Bisons took the set 25-12 on 6-1 run on two kills by Emily Clayton.

SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS

Tied 13-13, Harding went on a 6-2 on three kills by Sara Smith to lead 19-15. Lyon took the next three points to pull within one, 19-18. Harding closed the set on a 6-1 run on two Scot attack errors and two service errors.

SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS

Lyon took an early lead and eventually went up 21-15. Harding went on a 5-0 run to pull within one, 21-20. The teams exchanged points until the Scots had set point, 24-22. The Lady Bisons had back-to-back kills by Sara Smith and Molly Howard to tie the set at 24. Harding forced two Lyon attack errors to claim the set 26-24 and the match.

TEAM STATS

Harding had five attack errors through two sets but had six in the third set. The Lady Bisons hit .333 in the first two sets and .200 in the third set.

The Lady Bisons forced 24 Lyon attack errors and held the Scots to hitting .037.

Harding had 11 team blocks in the match.

INDIVIDUAL STATS

Harding was led by senior outside hitter Molly Howard who captured a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Junior middle blocker Sara Smith had 10 kills on 14 attempts and no errors for a match-high .714 hitting percentage. Smith also had two solo blocks and finished with five total blocks.

Freshman defensive specialist Taylor Lake had 10 digs and freshman middle blocker Zoe Hardin had four total blocks.

Lyon was led by Madison Sandborn who had 10 kills and hit .214. Madisson Williams led the defense with 13 digs.

Harding Head Coach Meredith Fear: "Glad to get the win in three tonight. We came out strong and got comfortable and tapered off but we were able to turn it on when necessary and get the 3-0 win. We are doing great things in system and need to work on our out of system play. Looking forward to two good conference matches this weekend."

UP NEXT

Harding will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Durant, Oklahoma to face Southeastern Oklahoma at 7 p.m. in Great American Conference action.
