SEARCY – Harding women's basketball made just one field goal in the final eight-plus minutes and lost for the first time at home this season, 67-59 to Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday at Rhodes Field House.
The loss combined with Arkansas Tech's victory over Southern Nazarene has dropped the Lady Bisons to second place in the GAC standings. Harding is 17-5 overall and 13-3 in conference play.
Southeastern Oklahoma (16-8, 9-7) won in Searcy for the first time since 1998.
Harding went on a 9-0 run on either side of the halftime break, hitting 8-of-9 shots, and led 41-29 with 18:21 left after A'ndrea Haney's made jumper. Then the Lady Bisons' cooled off and made only 5-of-20 the rest of the way. Harding made just 6-of-32 3-point attempts.
Southeastern shot 46 percent in the second half and had a 22-15 rebound advantage. The Savage Storm took the lead for good on a Rachel Wallace lead with 10:48 left and outscored the Lady Bisons 11-4 in the game's final 8:42.
"They just beat us in every phase of the game," Harding head coach Tim Kirby said. "We allowed them to get back into the game, and it came down to whether we could make shots and get stops, and we did not do either."
Harding had 10 players score in the game, but had none in double figures. Arielle Saunders led the team with nine points and nine rebounds and battled foul trouble throughout. With the nine rebounds, she became on the third Harding player with 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, joining Angie Dugger and Nancee Wilson.
Senior Montana Lewis was one of three Harding players to score eight points, and she became 15th Lady Bison with 1,000 career points.
Emily Williams led Southeastern with 19 points, and Olivia Potter came off the bench to score 17 points in only 19 minutes.
